The Spanish province of Almeria is much in demand by British people keen to pack up their belongings and sell up in the UK and move to the warmer country of Spain. While the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are favourites for British people wanting to relocate, others wish to avoid the bust seaside resorts and experience the more authentic Spain.
There is a diverse range of properties in many desirable towns in Almeria, and certainly too many to list here. Still, this article can give you a rough guide to two places that many British expats have chosen as a place to live.
Mojacar is proving to be one of the most popular places where the British are migrating to.
There is a choice between the hilltop village of Mojacar Pueblo and the beach of Mojacar Playa.
The Playa area is a holiday resort but without high-rise buildings. You can buy apartments for around €65/70,000. Villas range between €200/500,000.
Alternatively, there is the old village where you may buy a farmhouse for €250,000 upwards.
Another property hotspot is the traditional Spanish town of Vera.
Properties in Vera are slightly cheaper than in Mojacar. A single-room apartment will cost around € 45,000, and a three-bedroom apartment around €140,000.
These villages are around 53 miles (85 kilometres from Almeria Airport.
Travel By Road
Almeria has a fine network of roads connecting it with many villages and towns in the surrounding areas and further afield. The A roads pass through all the places of interest and connect drivers to the N (national roads).
The motorway A-92 connects Almeria with Seville, Estepa, and Granada.
Travel By Rail
For those wishing to travel by train to Almeria, the first leg of the journey takes them to Paris on the Eurostar, changing at Paris for a train to Barcelona, then a simple change from Barcelona to Almeria.
Almeria has a very modern and efficient rail network.
Travel By Plane
Most major UK airports have flights directly to Almeria airport, and many budget airlines fly this route.
Once there, travellers will discover the efficient transport network that will take them to their final destination.
What Is The Best Time To Go?
Those people looking to visit the town to view Almeria properties to buy would be advised to choose the low-season months. These months are February and March or October and November.
Prices will be more competitive in these months, and there will be more available. However, it would be advisable to book as early as possible.
Prices vary from hotel to hotel, but hotels such as the Torreluz Centro offer a price of £129 for four nights in November, based on two adults sharing. The La Perla offers the same for £107.
These prices are guides and could change for the other off-season months, but there is plenty of choices if people are prepared to shop around.
Almeria is an ideal place for people looking to buy in an area of Spain that still retains some of the traditional Spanish way of life and charm.
